My Lantern
You as lantern in darkness
Enlightening in every darkness
The white in the black
Star item in the middle of night of dark
As rainy in the summer
Sprinkle wilts plant.
Fighting to feel heat.
Dissipating to feel thirst
Looking towards the blue sky
Every color camouflaged around the cloud
Tears of sadness began to dry
Watching all the colors display out loud
A solitary piece the diamond
Precious rare gem most treasured
By those lucky enough to hold
Once in possession it is rarely out of grasp
You are a hero throughout the ages
Sweet makes science
Crying makes light guide
Dusk making a spirit
You set the clouds
Will not disappear by the moon
Your love is eternal
Until later I had a dream in a grave ...
Like the gemstone the mothers
Requires very specific conditions
In holding fast her children’s love
Treasured forever in her hearts

The Analysis of “My Lantern”

The poem “MY LANTERN ” is made by Khotib. This poem has four stanzas. As you know that every poem has some structure of the poem. And this poem has structures of poem too. The structures of the poem are Background, form and content of the poem. And I will write the analysis of the poem; they are Background Analysis, form analysis and content analysis.
A. Background analysis of “ MY LANTERN”
The idea of this poem came when I know the story about my mother. The anything in this poem is symbol of mother. I imagine about my mother story. And I know about how the better she is to face my problem, my naughty and also how hard she do to her family life. When I see about my mother, I feel that I want to cry, because I can feel how hard her duty to her family. I often saw about her story from my life.
This poem begins because I am sympathy with my mother. I made this poem because I am very admiring with her hard to face her family. Many people never think about their mother, how hard the mother duty for our live. Many people always think about their selves never care their mother I think mother need some sympathy from us, but seldom we never carried about it.
Because of my mother story, I interested to write a poem about her. I think that many people will give up when get a problem like this. And this problem is happened in a long time. Mother is always facing the big problem from her family to make a good family. But sometime we are forgetting about our mother and just think about our self. She works hard to defend her family life. So, I am so interested to make a poem about mother. And this poem is a result of my life to tell many people about the patient of the mother.
Every poem has special form because it different with other writing. It has different style, language, etc. every poem has different style of writing too. The form of this poem is rhyme and figure of speech. Rhyme is sound syllable of the end of each line. And figure of speech is the style of the language’s poem.

The rhyme scheme in this poem is “a a b b, c d d d, e f e f, f f f g, h h I h.” the rhyme of the line in this poem is different, it’s mean that the rhyme is not orderly. 2. Figure of Speech of “ MY LANTERN”
Figure of speech is a style of the language that is used in the poem. Poem always have figure of speech because It makes poem more beautiful. There are many kinds figure of speech. They are personification, metaphor, hyperbole, etc. this poem use personification, metaphor and hyperbole
a. Metaphor
Metaphor is a figure of speech in poem that compares about two things. The poet often uses metaphor to make a style of her poem. Metaphor in this poem is just located in stanza 1, 2, and 3.
• Stanza I
In stanza 1: there is metaphor located in line 1, line 2, line 3 and line 4. Because I think my mother is always help me in every road problem, she always to be my light in my life.
Line 1: in this line, there is a sentence “Mother as lantern in darkness” We know that mother is not the lantern, and she can’t to be the lamp in the dark, but its compare mother always give the bright road in every problem to us so I compare with the lantern. In this poem I write that Mother as lantern in darkness. It is not real meaning.
Line 2: in this line, there is a sentence “Enlightening in every darkness” mother is not thing that cannot give some light to dark, its compare that mother always give the good way to face our problem. But in this poem write Enlightening in every darkness, it just to make some beautiful word in this poem. It’s not real meaning.
Line 3: in this line, there is the sentence” The white in the black” its mean to compare mother is someone different with other. Its mean mother is always accompanying us in every time although in the bed time or in serious condition like in when we feel buried condition mother is always faithful to company us in everywhere and every time. But in this poem not the real meaning.
Line 4: in this line, there is a sentence” Star item in the middle of night of dark” its mean to compare that mother is the star in my live, she is strong to face us, to keep us, and anything for us. But in this poem us this sentence, but it not the real meaning.
• Stanza II
In stanza 2: there is metaphor located in line 1, line and line 2. Because I think my mother is always help me in to be calm down to face some problem, she always to be my entertainer when I feel give up and feel down to face my problem in my life.
Line 1: there is the sentence “As rainy in the summer” its compare that mother is always to be my entertainer when I face my problem with emotional feeling, she is always teach me to be quietly. So in this poem I write as rainy in the summer, it’s not the real meaning just the compare like the rain in the summer season.
Line 2: in this line there is the sentence “Sprinkle wilts plant “it’s compare with how weave my mother do when I child until I was grow up, mother is always do some hard to my success and my happy, sprinkle mean sweat. I can imagine how hard to do just for me. S in this poem I write Sprinkle it’s mean that the hard mother do, and I write plants its mean her children. So it’s not the real meaning, just for metaphor in a poem.
• Stanza III
In stanza 3: there is the metaphor located in line 1 and line 2, because I think my mother is always give the color in my live, she teach me to be strong human she always give anything I need in my live, she is accompany me in every condition. Its mean my mother gives me the color in my life and I think just my mother want to do it for me.
Line 1: in this line there is a sentence “Looking towards the blue sky”, its mean my mother always show me the bright point and teach me to be the success human and try to face the big problem by myself with high think not using the big emotional only. So in this poem I wrote Looking towards its mean the bright point of the problem, and I wrote the blue sky its mean face the big problem by myself with high think not using the big emotional only.
Line 2: in this line there is the sentence “Every color camouflaged around the cloud” its mean mother is always beside me in every time, and in every condition. Like when I sad, when I feel down, and when I feel happy. Mother is always accompany me and wants to listen what I said to her. I wrote every color its mean in every condition, and I wrote camouflaged around the cloud its mean when I feel down and give up. It’s not the real meaning just compare with what my mother do for me.
• Stanza V
In stanza 5: there is the metaphor, located in first line. Its mean mother is like the diamond that very considerable to my live, so we must appreciated the mother who has pregnant us and keep us until we grow up. We can’t give just the money or anything in this word to pay what has she do for their children. We must reverence our mother and try to make her be proud of you and be happy always. So in this poem I wrote like the gemstone the mothers it’s not real meaning but just compare with the mother is.
b. Hyperbola
Hyperbole is a figure of speech that says more than normally or over normal. Many poet use hyperbole to make her poem beautiful. Hyperbole in this poem is located in stanza 3 in line 3-4, stanza 4 in line 1-2, and in stanza 5 in line 2.
• Stanza III
Line 3: in this poem there is hyperbola in line 3 there is the sentence” Tears of sadness began to dry” it’s mean no tears can be dry while some cry in anytime. So this sentence has the over meaning so I wrote this sentence make some beautiful word in this poem because the poem need more figure of speech to make the poem more beautiful to read by reader. And the poem should interest to reader heart.
Line 4: in this line there is the sentence “Watching all the colors display out loud” we know that the all color can’t out load to our eyes when we saw anything, although our mother cannot out load some color in our live, I write this sentence to make some over meaning, this sentence has the real meaning that mother give anything what we need to our live. Color mean anything that she gives to us {their children} we know that our mother want to do anything to our life and our success. Can you imagine how hard it to do?
• Stanza IV
Line 1: there is the sentence “A solitary piece the diamond” it’s used hyperbola because has the over meaning. It’s compare with mother is cannot the same of other people like friend only or other people. Mother is different with the other women in around us; mother is very special women in my live. Mother has a good job in our live; she has most love and never can be the same of her. So in this poem I wrote the A solitary piece the diamond its mean mother is different, it’s not the real meaning but it’s hyperbola figure of speech to make some beautiful in this poem.
Line 2: there is the sentence “Precious rare gem most treasured” . It indicates that it is a hyperbola. It is because mother is everything that cannot immediately compare with the thing that is unprecious. It is also shows hyperbola because this makes something un precious become over.
• Stanza V
Line 2: in this line there is the sentence “Requires very specific conditions” mother is not the medicine but she can be the medicine in our live she always already to make us be strongly in every condition, its mean that mother is always to be our heart medicine.
c. Personification
Personification is a type of figure of speech in which distinctive human characteristics. In this poem, the writer also put a personification in every stanza. So, we can say that there are four personifications in the first stanza, two personifications in the second stanza, one personification in the first stanza, and two personifications in the first stanza.
• Stanza V
In the 5 stanza, the writer put the personification. There are 2 of personifications in this stanza. In the third line, the writer writes “In holding fast her children’s love” that makes the hold fast to her children. In the 4th line, the writer” Treasured forever in her hearts”, that can indicate that heart can act as a human being that can treasured. Land actually cannot heart and land is also cannot be come to the heart. We can know two personifications. All of them can indicate the personification because it compare between the thing and the human activities.
C. Content analysis of “MY LANTERN”
After analysis about the background and form of the poem, we will analysis the content of the poem. Every poem has a content analysis. The content that will be analyzed is paraphrase and moral message.
1. Paraphrase in “MY LANTERN”
This poem tells us about the wonder’s girl about mother’s story. She has heave problems in her live. And mother has always faced it with the patient. And many people never think about how wonders the mother, its very heave. And she never felt down in her life. But she thinks that she has to effort to spirit again and she always positive thinking. She think that it is may be better for her child and her life. And she always has a imagine that some day she will get a nice life. Although, many people never think about it. Even condition in her life too. But he never stops effort to get her dream and her expectation.
Mother in this poem means the wonder women in some family life. Many problems fight the mother. And she never gives up facing it. She never down in the lowest feeling. When she gets a big problem in her family, she always face it with a positive thinking, she hope that problem will be clear with easy ways. Her life is very huge, she should be a patient women, good women, and do the best to her family especially to her children. May be she fell very tired, but she doesn’t gives up and always keep her attitude to make her children to be spirit people. And, she always tries to stand up again and she tries to always spirit every day to continue her live.
2. Moral Message in “MY LANTERN”
In poem, there are some moral messages that can be learning if we can think it. But, the moral message in poem is abstract. So, we have to understand the poem and search the moral message by our self. In this poem there are some moral messages too. They are we have to never give up, we have to always get efforts, we have to be patient, always positive thinking, reverence your mother in your life, maybe it’s will be more be better in our live from before until the day after .
a. “never give up”
In this world, we always get many problems. There isn’t live without problem. Sometimes, we feel very down when we get some problem. But, we have to think that we have to never give up. Because, if we give up, we will broken by the problems.
b. “get effort”
When we get problem, we have to get efforts if we want to get the solve of the problem. Without efforts, we can’t solve our problem. Because, this is time to get effort. And if we get efforts, we will get a beautiful things too, because it is the result of our efforts.
c. “be patient”
Nobody life without problems. And sometimes, problem makes us weak to do activity, and sometimes make us weak to life and sometimes make us want to die. So, we have to manage our heart to be patient. Because, patient is key of life.
d. “always positive thinking”
It’s will build our spirit in our life, with positive thinking we will get some nice dream in our live, we will get happy ending. Clearly ways s in our live. When we will have positive thinking our good dream will come true.
e. “reverence your mother”
Because we must appreciated the mother who has pregnant us and keep us until we grow up. We can’t give just the money or anything in this word to pay what has she do for their children. We must reverence our mother and try to make her be proud of you and be happy always.
f. “Don’t be a bad person.”
It is because we have to follow our Prophet Muhammad SAW’s steps. If we are a bad person, we will get a punishment from our God and one day we will feel guilty in our heart. So, we have to try not to be a bad person.
g. “We have to be a careness person as long as we can.”
It because we will get a promise from our God that behind the difficulty, it is saved an easy thing.
h. “Try to make a good decision.”
As human, you have to brave to take decision, so does not only be silence because it can make other people became drifting without direction and without certainty.
i. “Mother is the wonder women in some family life”. Many problems fight the mother. And she never gives up facing it. She never down in the lowest feeling. When she gets a big problem in her family, she always face it with a positive thinking, she hope that problem will be clear with easy ways. Her life is very huge, she should be a patient women, good women, and do the best to her family especially to her children. May be she fell very tired, but she doesn’t gives up and always keep her attitude to make her children to be spirit people. And, she always tries to stand up again and she tries to always spirit every day to continue her live.
