“Tycoon” by Harold Robbins

This novel was written by Harold Robbins and published in 1997. The novel talk about the story of Jack Lear’s life, a Jewish. He is the son of Erich Lear and the grandson of Johann Lehrer. 

The novel started with the romantic situation between Jack and his wife, Kimberly Bayard Wolcott Lear, in their room. They talk about how Jack’s family would respond about Kim as his wife, and they talk about Jack’s family life and his businesses. Their talk then continued to sex. Which at the night, they decided to have sex without condom to make a baby. After they had sex, accidentally, there is someone who knocked their door. And that someone was Jack’s grandpa, Johann Lehrer. He went there to discuss about Jack’s business and then gave Jack a half million dollars to be developed.

One day, Jack and his father met and discussed about their business. Erich wanted Jack to be the vice president of his scrap collector business. But Jack refused and insisted that he will keep goind on his radio business which Erich didn’t agree with that. And the family meeting was end badly.

And now, Jack and Kimberly live in Kim’s house at Chestnut street, Boston. There, they had sex before then they came to the Christmas party. And in the bar, in the Christmas party, Jack sit with Kimberly’s father, Harrison Wolcott, and talk about Jack’s life with his daughter and about Jack’s business which made him impressed. And after the party, Jack and Kimberly had sex again.

At February 1932, Jack was finding an advertisement publisher. Herb Morill brought trio singer, the Bronson Brothers, for the advertising. Jack didn’t like them after he heard they sang. But then Jack accepted it. And after six weeks, Kim gave birth, which then Jack must go to New York with Herb to find a comic for the weekly radio show. And he accepted Jack Benny, as Herb suggested, as the comic. And Jack Lear has a good news that his baby was born, he named him John Wolcott Lear.

After his occasion in New York, Jack started his first scandal with his nanny, Cecily, in his house’s bathroom. Beside that, Jack’s radio business, WCHS, made a modest profit. It’s all because his option to chose Jack Benny as the comic, and the other player on his radio show, and also because Jack management which made his business grow successfully.

One day, Kimberly turn Jack and her house into showroom during her second pregnancy. They had so many guests that day, one of them is Betsy. And in the showroom, Jack met Betsy and Jack was teased by Betsy’s temptation to him and they plan a scandal together. But after than Kimberly came with a new guy, and she made Jack ashamed by talking about his minus point. And after the show, Jack and Kimberly had a dispute about the preceding case.

On June 10 1934, Jack received a telegram from his oldfriend, Mickey Sullivan, that his grandfather is dying. And the next day Jack went to L.A to see his grandfather’s condition. There he met Mickey, which work for Erich, and Jack pursue him to leave his father and started work to him, and Mickey agree that. The next day, Johann Lehrer was buried. And Mickey took Jack to a rest in Ambassador hotel. And there, Jack begin a new scandal with Consetta Lazzara, an underage girl. And the next day, Jack came home to Boston and picked up by Kimberly who brought him a shocking news in a newspaper.

On 1935, Jack had his babies born. The little girl named Joan Edith Lear just like how Jack and Kim discussed. And Jack had his business grow bigger, and promoting Herb and Mickey as the vice president of WCHS,inc. But in the other side, another Jack’s business, WHFD,inc, suffer a financial lose, and Jack changed it to Lear Broadcasting,inc. And when Jack got the authority of new transmitter, Jack bought radio station WHPL in White Plains, New York. In June, Jack went there to review the programming and management. And there was where Jack started his scandal with Betsy Emerson as they planned. And in the hotel room, Jack listened to a radiostation, and find a good news reader, Curtis Frederick. And he set a meeting with him. Jack convinced Curtis to join his corporation, and in the end, Curtis Frederick agree to join him in 1936.

After Curtis joined the Lear Broadcasting,inc. The incorporation grow fast because of his professionality. And Jack began his scandal to a married woman who attract him, Connie Horan.

In July 1936, Jack bought a radio station in Los Angeles.and there, he invited Consetta Lazarra as company.
On December, Kimberly said to Jack that she was enough for having two children, and wanted to undergo tubal ligitation. Jack was unhappy, but Kim insisted. She suggest to Jack that they will be became more adventurous in eroticism. And after that, Kim and the kids moved to Cape while Jack needs to move everywhere to keep his business going on.

In his trip to everyside of America and Europe, Jack had Cecily as company. Without Kim besides, Jack freely had sex with Cecily wherever and whenever he wanted. Beside that, Kim also had her own scandal with Dodge Hallowell.

As war keeps going on, Jack whose radio station business so wide, became the Brigadier General of American Information Service. And he got order to go to London to join the operation code-named Overlord. During the final stage of the operation, Jack met Anne Weldon when he looking for a great challenge of playing bridge. And Jack began to know more about her, and found the fact that her husband was dead six months ago. And started from the day, Jack met Anne continuously. At September, Jack had sad news. Cecily is dead because the bomb-war which unpredictably aimed to a state in England, where Cecily was drove the car in the area. And Jack came to Anne’s house in early morning to find a friend to share his sadness. And the sadness keep going on to Jack. After that tragedy, he had a command letter that the Overlord was discontinued. He had to come home.

In Boston, he arrived home by gifts for his children and Kimberly, although they disputed about their preceding action in long distance relationship, Jack aould keep his life continues normally.

In 1945, Jack acquired another station, in Atlanta. And now Jack had eleven radio stations on network. Cap Durenberger, the everastute, ponting out that “Lear Broadcasting” was not an appealing name, Jack agree Cap’s idea to change the name into LNI for Lear Network, incorporated. And begin the Television as the new network in company. And he keep his scandal activity continued with Connie, and their activity was known by Kimberly after she called by  Connie that she had his baby in her stomach. And in September, Jack Lear and Kimberly Wolcott divorced.

Jack still contacted Anne through letter. And they continued their love story which paused on England. They married in December 1945, at Weldon Abbey.  As time goes, Anne bought houses in Paris, Germany, and another countries. Jack pursued Dodge to marry Kimberly for her sake. And Jack have a big problem which made him had to looking for help to his father. John, his son, made his daughter, Joan, pregnant at fourteen years old. And it made Jack pursue Joan to do abortion in a secret doctor as Erich suggested.

In 1950, just after a year after his daughter had abortion, Jack got sad news again. Monica Dale, an actress who looked for a contract teased Erich to accept her by doing blowjob to please his man need. But during the blowjob goes on, Erich dead because of heart attack. And after the burying, Jack and Bob discussed how they will divide the inheritance. And as the punishment, Monica had to continue his unfinished work to Erich, and Jack is the punisher. She must serve Jack manly need.

In 1952, John worked as a pilot and Joni worked as a model. Joni modeled dresses and coats at first, but later, she began to appear in bras and panties which made the Lear’s name seem bad in the society. Jack didn’t care of that through Kimberly is angry and sent him hell words through telegram. Now Jack and Anne had two children, Little Jack and Anne Elizabeth, and they decided to not add another. And because that, Jack do a surgery that sterilize him. So he could have sex freely without worry of having new baby. And John married with Linda. 

In 1954, Joni begin new stream of modeling, she is modeled nude for Playboy magazine which made her mother sent addition hell words to her. But not so long, Kimberly and Dodge died. The media said it because simultaneous heart attack when they had sex. And Jack thought it was impossible. So he find the truth about it and found the reality of how their relationship was.

In 1956, John died because of the malfunction of his plane system. And this brought Lear’s family in sorrowful sadness. After John buried, Joni confessed her sin with her brother fourteen years ago which made Jack stressed.
