The Golden Room is a story which has many characters, This analysis is about one of main character. The main character who is going to analyze is Minna. There are two points which are going to analyze about Minna : Minna Personality, and her conflicts.

A.    Minna Personality

Minna is owner from The Everleigh Club, she was diminutive, she has five feet two, unstylishly slender ( no corset necessary), 106 pounds, with auburn hair that had been brushed and curled high and adorned with sparkling rhinestone crescents. Her gray-blue eyes were small and intense.

Minna has experience working, she worked in a stock company and traveled across the country. After she joined the troupe, she also to be an actresses. Where the trans-mississippi international exposition was taking place. Minna wanted to leave the stock company-finally Minna decide to become madams of prostitude. She is widow, because her husband is spoiled and wicked her husband always drub Minna.

Minna personality is kind, not matrealistic, hard worked, good, stubborn, selfish.

1.      Kind

Minna is a kind woman with someone, Minna kind when talk with Chet Foley reporter on the tribune, when the customer came, when the prostitutes sick.

a.       When talk with Chet Foley

Minnna is a kind woman, when she talk with Chet Foley reporter on the tribune, because she always answered the question from Chet Foley, she not angry when Chet Foley ask about she past and about The Everleigh Club.

Returning to the desk, Minna sat down and smiled brightly at Foley. 'So you want to know more about my past,' she said. 'I'm sure you want to ask what every newcomer always asks first, I'm never tired of that question,' said Minna.

Minna always answer the questions posed by Chet Foley about his past, the journey of love and family, she answered with a friendly and courteous.

b.      When the customer come

Minnna is a kind woman, when the customer come to The Everleigh Club, because she always receive the customer in happy, and serve as good as prostitude.

Welcome in The Everleigh Club, come on please, I'll take you to see and choose women who will accompany you on this night.

Minna always smile and greet the customers who come to The Everleigh Club, he always drove up in and meet with her prostitude.

c.       When the prostitutes sick

Minnna is a kind woman, when she knows the prostitutes sick, because Minna always check the prostitutes health with invite doctor to check it.

Minna nodded. 'Good. Your duties would be to come to the Club two days a week, mornings and afternoons – the girls are otherwise occupied evenings – to examine the girls and report to me if anything is amiss.'

'You mean if any one of them has a venereal disease?'

'That is my sole concern,' said Minna. 'These girls of mine are the best and most expensive, and they must be clean.'

'I presume, Miss Everleigh, your real concern is syphilis.'

'Exactly. Are you familiar with the latest treatment of syphilis?'

Minna is very concerned with the health of prostitutes, until she hires a doctor just to check the health of the prostitutes who work to her.

2.      Not Matrealistic

Minna is a not matrealistic woman, Minna not matrealistic when the father dead, when the uncle order to marry, when with mayor.

a.       When the Father dead

Minna is not matrealistic woman when the father dead, Minna get legacy from the father dead, but actually Minna not accept the legacy, but finally she accept the legacy because necessity with her sister.

'Well, thank you, boys,' said Minna. 'Soon after we joined up, Aida and I found jobs in a stock company and travelled across the country. While we were on the road, our father died, and we inherited $35,000. I do not want to accept it. Aida 'take it to pay for our purposes later'.

Minna received the money inheritance of his father's by force from her sister, her sister Minna forced to accept it, to make money as the cost of living when the father dead.

b.      When the uncle order to marry

Minna is not matrealistic woman, when the uncle order to marry with rich man, she not accept this offer, the uncle think if she marry with rich man, she will happy life, but Minna push this.

We've tried to help him, but he doesn't like taking money from us.' Minna poured, then continued more cheerfully. 'Anyway, his nephew (Minna)  is marrying into riches. Charles wrote to us recently that our niece, Minna is engaged to marry the son of Harold T. Armbruster, the Chicago meat-packing king. ‘Minna 'I do not want to marry him'

Minna uncle, his life is not so well off, his life is always a shortage, then the cause of the uncle told Minna to marry a rich young man that his life could not be like affluent uncle Charles, but rejected Minna, Minna assume that the money could be sought.

c.       When with Mayor

Minna is not matrealistic woman, when mayor will bribe with money, to cloused The Everleigh Club.

'It's about my major campaign promise,' Harrison began. 'I made many secondary promises to the public, and they will eventually be fulfilled. But my primary promise to the electorate, as you all know, was to introduce sweeping moral reforms in this city. All houses of ill repute in the Levee must be eliminated. Of these houses I focused on one in particular. I refer to the Everleigh Club. I am determined that the Everleigh Club must be my first target. The Everleigh Club is the one brothel known throughout the United States and Europe. I want to go after it immediately, shut it down, and prove to the voters that I meant what I said in my campaign. There is one problem.' If the owner The Everleigh Club does not want to close, give him the money to close the brothel.

Minna hear the conversation immediately denied, he did not want closed that business brothel, and Minna also rejected the amount of money given by the Mayor, she retains hes The Eveleigh Club.

3.        Friendly

Minna is a friendly girl and good attitude with someone. When she talks to housekeeper in every activities. On chrismast she willingly to exppress marry chrismast, when she talks to her driver, when she meets of lawyer of her father.

a.       When she talks to housekeeper.

      She is friendly girl because the housekeeper always gives all of what she want and exprees the christmas to her. And when she sleep,

                        “morning , Miss Minna ....merry chistmas,” she said. And Minna rolled over. Smiled sleepy at the short , stout figure the housekeeper

Thought Minna fondly, suppressing a giggle as she regarded the shiny, surface of the dark   blue cottondress. The wide white collar so stiff it barely toucheits wearer’s shoulders, the flat white band with its row of lacetop the graying head.

b.      When she talks to  her driver

Minna is a friendly girl,  when she talks to her driver. When she want going to anywhere she ask with respectfull and never forget to smile and have a good attitude.

“Tuck this in around you good now, ”Wilfredd said, pulling up to the lab  robe.

 “ I would not be a surprised if this ain’t the coldest we’ve has this year. Where to, Miss Minna?”

     “please, Let’s drive trough the outskirt of the city a while, Wilfred, and then stop by Mrs. cramer’s on the eway home  i wanna see if she has any new material in the shop.”

Minna pulled the soft fur lap robe closer about her and inched nearer to the window so she could see better. The signs of christmas were still much in envidence, along one block someone had tied great red bown fashioned of oil-cloth around each lampost, and farter on a small green tree, its branches festooned with popocorn string.

c.    When she talks and meet lawyer

Minna is a  friendly girl when she takls and meet the lawyer and be acquanted with her father and she always smiling for him.

“Minna Darling, Mr.Gregg is my new lawyer, adviser. Minna smiled and said,” Mr.Greegg  you’re thin man in the perfectly tailored clothes.

Gregg took her hand very lightly in his and bowed over it as if he were going to kiss it,   though his lips never quite touched her skin.

4.      Hard Worked

Minna is a hard worked woman, when she build The Everleigh Club, when she fight the mayor, when she change her life.

a.       When she build The Everleigh Club

Minna is a hard worked woman, when she build The Everleigh Club, because she started hard worked to build The Everleigh Club its own, began started to finding a place, house, and collect the many to buy the house.

'We acquired a rundown house, redecorated it with our own money, and opened it up to the free-spending males swarming over the fair. By the time the fair wound up, our $35,000 holdings had doubled to $70,000. Without the fair, we knew that Omaha couldn't do much for us. We needed a bigger city. Also, equally important, we needed the fanciest, most unforgettable house in the United States. Then Aida and I had the same idea at the same time. To take a trip. Travel around and see the best brothels in Europe and the U.S.A. to pick up hints from them. So that's what we did. We spent a year visiting the most luxurious houses and meeting the most successful madams. We learned what we could before going into our own business once more. By the time we returned from our travels, Aida and I had a fairly good idea what a perfect brothel should be.'

To build The Everleigh Club Minna requires a large city, and have adequate facilities, crowded place which is much visited by many people. For the Minna spend time, effort and money to find a place that thinks that in accordance with the wants.

b.      When she fight the mayor

Minna is a hard worked, when she fight the mayor because she maintain The Everleigh Club that will be closed by the major, she decided to maintain The Everleigh Club its she build with own.

We want Stewart to beat him.' Her voice rose. 'You hear me – Aida and I cannot allow Harrison to be elected.'

'What do you expect us to do?' asked Coughlin.

'Oh, come on,' said Minna with exasperation. 'We know you two have the First Ward in your pocket. If you can get your army here to vote against Harrison, he'll be licked.'

'I repeat,' said Coughlin, 'what do you want us to do?'

Minna put down her glass. 'We want you to do what you've done for years. Buy the votes. Buy votes against Harrison.'

'That takes considerable money,' said Coughlin.

'How much?' demanded Minna, aiming her question at Kenna. 'How much will it cost us to stay in business?'

'$15,000 cash on the line today,' said Kenna.

Minna whistled. 'That's a lot.'

Minna did not receive the treatment that the mayor, Minna does not agree to close the the Everleigh Club, which he has built painstakingly and requires a lot of time and a lot of money.

c.       When she change her life

Minna is a hard worked, when she change her life, she try to change her life more than good from previously.

Minna shook her head. 'No, we began to make changes. The first thing we changed was our name. We were Minna and Aida Lester. to disguise the origin of our.

Since the left for dead by his father, the first step is done Minna is changing its name and her sister became Minna and Aida Lester.
Minna try to eliminate tracks by changing the name and leave all his family to change his life for the better.

5.      Good

Minna is a good woman, when she good with family, when she good with Karen, when she good with Dr. Holmes.

a.       When she good with family

Minna is a good woman, she good with own family, when she leave family to change her life, and she lovely with father she always follow his want.

Our father was a well-off lawyer. We were both sent to a Southern finishing school.

Minna shook her head. 'No, we began to make changes. The first thing we changed was our name. We were Minna and Aida Lester. to disguise the origin of our.

Minna is a very good woman and dutiful to her family, especially to her father. Until she wants to continue her studies because in order by her father, after which she changed her name and change her life to family for the better.

b.      When she good with Karen

Minna is a good woman, she good with Karen, when first time Karen came to The Everleigh Club, she receive Karen with happy, beside than Karen is the mayor elegant, gorgeous secretary who is playing than a dangerous masquerade.

'But I have one,' said Ostrow. 'She's outside. Minna, I have a sensational girl for you.'

'That's like bringing coals to Newcastle. Still, I'm always interested in someone new. What about her?'

Minna stood up. 'I will, in a few minutes. Tell you what, you take Karen to room seven upstairs. Fanny's room. Have her wait for me. You can come back down and have yourself a drink.'

Minna know Karen from Ostrow, Ostrow introduce Karen and asked her to meet Minna Everleigh Club The, there Minna welcomed with happy and friendly. After a long time, Minna know if Karen is the messenger of the mayor to infiltrate into the Everleigh Club was.

c.       When she good with Dr. Holmes

Minna is a good woman, she good with Dr. Holmes, when Dr. Holmes come to she, to require help for hide Dr. Holmes from policeman result case killing.

Minna help me from a police chase it, please hide me in your home. Why the police chasing you Dr.Holmes? What perhaps you killer Fanny and Varley? yes I kill them, because they want to shut down the Everleigh Club and divulge everything to mayor. I'll hide you in my house, but you have to keep all the secrets

Minna would hide Dr.Holmes in her house because Dr. Holmes killed Fanny and Varley to the Everleigh Club, he killed them to keep secret The Everleigh Club, so as not exposed to the mayor.

6.      Stubborn

Beside all of her good characters, she has bad characters. She is stubborn woman, she is stubborn woman when she wants to go U.S.A, when she break marry with her husband, when she order to closed The Everleigh Club with mayor.

a.       When she wants to go U.S.A

Minna is a stubborn woman, when she wants to go U.S.A, actually from her grandmother do not permission to her, but she persistent to go U.S.A.

Minna please do not leave grandma, stay here with grandmother and keep your nephew. Grandmother is very dear to you, do not leave grandma.

Her grandmother asked Minna to stay with him, but Minna did not want to because Minna asked to maintain and care for her nephew, but Minna did not want to. Minna finally leaving his grandmother to the U.S.A although get permission from his grandmother.

b.      When she break marry with her husband

Minna is a stubborn woman, when she break marry with her husband, actually her father do not permit to marry with him, because she asked to finish the school.

Our father was a well-off lawyer. We were both sent to a Southern finishing school. Later on, we both fell in love with two handsome brothers and were wedded to them. Very fancy. But our father did not agree with it,

Minna is stubborn, he told his father to continue his studies, but Minna asked for permission to marry him his choice, but his father did not give permission to get married, before school finished, but Minna nonetheless took the decision to marry the man her choice.

c.       When she order to closed The Everleigh Club with mayor

Minna is a stubborn woman, when she order to closed The Everleigh Club with mayor, she does not want to closed The Everleigh Club.

To congratulate him. I tell the mayor, "You can do whatever you want to do with the other houses in the Levee. But you can't close the Everleigh Club." The mayor rears up at that. "Who says I can't close the Everleigh Club? It's the one whorehouse I mean to close and fast."

was so Minna know that Harrison became a mayor, Minna continues to set the strategy that the mayor was not closing the Everleigh Club, she hired people to thwart the closure of the Everleigh Club.

7.      Selfish

She is a selfish woman, when she with her sister, when she leave her grandmother, when she leave her uncle.

a.       When she with her sister

Minna is selfish, when she with her sister. She bring imprison her sister, result her mistake.

Aida who did police officer, she hid Dr.Holmes in our house.

Minna imprisoning her sister by mistake Minna that hides Dr. Holmes in his home, she pointed to her sister Aida had to hide it. Finally Aida taken and imprisoned for some time, for the mistakes she had committed.

b.      When she leave her grandmother

Minna is selfish, when she leave her grandmother, because Minna not acknowledge her grandmother, result her grandmother do not permit to her go to U.S.A

Minna please do not leave grandma, stay here with grandmother and keep your nephew. Grandmother is very dear to you, do not leave grandma.

Her grandmother asked Minna to stay with him, but Minna did not want to because Minna asked to maintain and care for her nephew, but Minna did not want to. Minna finally leaving his grandmother to the U.S.A although get permission from his grandmother.

c.       When she leave her uncle

Minna is selfish, when she leave her uncle. Because her uncle order to marry with rich man.

B.     Minna Psychological Conflicts

In this story, Minna has some conflicts with himself or with other people’s. this analysis is about Minna psychological conflict.

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when her mother die, when she leave her father, when she leave her grandmother, when she leave her husband, when she build The Everleigh Club, when Chet Foley interview Minna, when she have a money, when she father die, when her sister got the jail, when she remember her husband.

1.      When her mother die

From child Minna live with her sister and her father, her mother leave Minna when Minna child, so Minna suppressed must live without her mother, she jealous with her friends, but Minna aware and must strong and stand alone without her mother.

Every day they are ushered her mother to school, father, I envy same my friends, Where my mother? Why she left me to go?

Minna from childhood been left for dead by her mother, because her mother died while giving birth to her sister. Minna every day to school ushered by her father, she was very sad and shocked when he saw her in between her mother each to school.

2.      When she leave her father

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when she leave her father. Actually Minna does not to leave her father, but she must continue the study at L.A. in condition her father suffered a stroke. She so very confused to leave her father or not. Finally Minna decide to leave her father and continue the study at L.A.

Our father was a well-off lawyer. We were both sent to a Southern finishing school.

Minna left his father to continue his studies at the time of his father
ill stroke.

3.      When she leave her grandmother

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when she leave her grandmother, but her grandmother other Minna to keep nephew, if Minna life with her grandmother Minna must take care the nephew as if mother to her nephew, finally Minna perforce choose to leave her grandmother and does not to take care of her nephew.

Minna please do not leave grandma, stay here with grandmother and keep your nephew. Grandmother is very dear to you, do not leave grandma.

Her grandmother asked Minna to stay with him, but Minna did not want to because Minna asked to maintain and care for her nephew, but Minna did not want to. Minna finally leaving his grandmother.

4.      When she leave her husband

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when she leave her husband. Actually Minna love with her husband, her husband too. But her husband is turned out to be spoiled brats, and above being violent with us. So she leave her husband and divorce her husband.

But our husbands turned out to be spoiled brats, and not above being violent with us. Wouldn't you agree, Aida?'

Minna addressed Chet Foley again. 'When you get to know me better, Chet, you'll know I'd never stand for anything like that for long. So I just upped and left my husband, divorced him, and went to Washington, D.C.

Minna is so in love with her husband, to the extent that he is up against his father just to get married with her husband, but it turns out her husband berkalu hard to Minna, he always hurt Minna with hurtful words and harsh treatment of his hand. and her husband turned out to be just a spoiled brat.

5.      When she build The Everleigh Club

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when she build The Everleigh Club. Actually Minna build The Everleigh Club just to get much money more fast, but when The Everleogh Club have done build and open operasi, any one mayor not agree with The Everleigh Club. He try to close The Everleigh Club with force Minna. But, Minna constant and save The Everleigh Club.

'Nonsense,' snapped Minna. 'There may be 200 brothels in the area, but you know and I know Harrison is after only one. He's been very open about that in all his speeches. He wants to shut down the Everleigh Club because it is the best-known sporting house in the city, the country, the world. He wants to make an example of us. We don't intend to let him do that. We want him beaten in this election. We want Stewart to beat him.' Her voice rose. 'You hear me – Aida and I cannot allow Harrison to be elected.'

Minna building The Everleigh Club weariness with his own self, he spends a lot of time and money just to build The Everleigh Club. after he heard that the mayor will shut down The Everleigh Club, he did not accept and oppose it.

6.      When Chet Foley interview Minna

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when Chet Foley interview Minna. Because when Chet Foley interview Minna he always ask about The Everleigh Club, it’s make Minna annoyed, but Chet Foley only ask about that.

Feeling more at ease, Foley could not resist a thin smile. 'You're quite right, Miss Everleigh…'

'Make that Minna.'

'Yes, Minna,' Foley said, nervously. 'But if you're tired of that old question, I can wait…'

'I'm tired of that question,' said Minna.

Actually Minna is the person who was friendly to everyone, when Chet Foley first interviewed him about his life which she answered happily, but after the passage of time, Chet Foley increasingly pursing a question about The Everleigh Club to Minna, question after question in the catapult by Chet Foley The Everleigh Club, there are several questions pertaining to Minna, finally Minna get angry and leave Chet Foley.

7.      When she have a money

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when she have a money. Actually Minna is not matrealistic women, when Minna have money, she make a money to build the prostitute (The Everleigh Club).

We wanted to leave the stock company – it was miserable work – we wondered if we could invest our money in something more lucrative and pleasant.'

why not? We never became prostitutes, but we liked the idea of becoming madams.

Minna instead of people the matre, Minna had money from the legacy of his father died, he wanted to invest the money to quickly become a lot, but the roads are in get it wrong, that he used the money to build prostitution (The Everleigh Club).

8.      When her father die

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when her father die. Minna leave her father when her father get stroke, after  few months her father die, and Minna come to home just to go funeral ceremony. Because when she break marry with her husband, actually her father do not permit to marry with him, because she asked to finish the school and Minna resentful.

Minna, come to the house, we saw the bodies of a father for the last time’ said Aida, you leave go ahead, I'll catch up directly to the father's death ceremony.

Minna, just come to the ceremony of his father's death, she did not want to see his father's body for the last time.

9.      When her sister got the jail

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when her sister got the jail. Minna just live alone, she feel loneliness, so make she depression and sad.

after I put him into jail, I now feel lonely, living alone with no one else in the company.

Minna felt lonely, after she put her sister to jail because of mistakes Minna. she was living alone without anyone to accompany him.

10.  When she remember her husband

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when she remember her husband. After be divorced with her husband, Minna not open with another man, she felt an of the man same with her husband.

No, I do not want uncle. I think all men are the same as my ex-husband.

Minna was offered to marry by her uncle, but she did not want to because she always assess all men are the same as her ex-husband, so Minna will not be open to all men. maybe she will be a widow forever.

11.  When Dr. Holmes killed the prostitute

Psychological conflict happen inside of Minna self. Psychological conflict of Minna when she know Dr. Holmes killed the prostitute. because Dr. Holmes knows Fanny will divulge about the Everleigh Club to the police.

I actually hate and hurt to you Dr. Holmes, you have killed my woman.

Actually Minna very hurt to Dr. Holmes, because Dr. Holmes killed one of the prostitutes, but Minna also have to thank him because he killed Fanny who will dismantle and divulge about The Everleigh Club to the police.
